Sep05Free school meal promotion in Manchester
Year seven pupils across Manchester received a warm welcome from their new schools this September, with free food and drink offered to them on the first day of term.
School meals provider Manchester Fayre, launched the new promotion for all new secondary school starters providing free items including a hot drink at breakfast, a baked item at morning break, as well as fruit, yoghurt, and bottled water.
The giveaway is part of a trial to encourage pupils to try the food items on offer for themselves and to introduce them to the school and catering service.
Councillor Bernard Priest, Executive Member for Finance and Human Resources and responsibility for school meals at Manchester City Council said:
The offer is a way of introducing pupils and their parents to the meals and snacks that are available in school throughout the day.
We do encourage families to consider school meals as an option for their children, as they offer good value for money providing a healthy and substantial lunch for less than £2 a day.
