New five-a-day school bar for kids

4 September, 2008

Parents can avoid receiving warning notes from teachers about providing their children with a healthy packed lunch.

A new “School Bar” has been introduced that counts toward the recommended five-a-day portions of fruit and vegetables. The bars are available in six flavours and each contain just 0.6g of fat and 67 calories with no added sugar.

School Bars are available from the dried fruit section of most supermarkets priced at around &1.00 for a box of five.

The School Food Trust has proposed that teachers should send out warning letters to parents who fail to comply with school healthy-eating policies.
